Read a hundred "recommend me an alternative" threads and the same six requirements surface in nearly every one, usually in the same order. Reading the columns

Unlimited free messages. Only two things genuinely deliver this: Kindroid's free tier, which has no counter at all (the trade is a lighter model), and any self-assembled setup where you supply the model key — there's no platform cap because there's no platform in the loop, just metered API usage running most people a few dollars a month. Everything else is a daily allowance, and the honest ones say so.

No filter, without the drift. This is the request that gets asked most and answered worst, so state it plainly: no platform solves it. Uncensored platforms optimize toward what the majority of their users want, which is why "I want no filter but I'm not looking for that" keeps hitting a wall. The actual fix is craft — a character definition with an explicit never-list, on a platform that respects definitions. Uncensored + curated + big. Large open libraries are community-uploaded, and community uploads skew. Filtering by tag doesn't fix it. Building your own three or four characters does.

Exactly old Character.AI. What people are nostalgic for is a specific model behaving a specific way — and that model isn't for sale anywhere. The nearest approach is controlling your own model so nothing changes underneath you.

And whichever you pick: keep the definitions in a folder on your own drive. Every platform in this table has changed terms on its users at least once — the ones that vanished entirely took everyone's characters with them.
